The lenses are well made, they have decent mechanics, and they offer good center sharpness even when used wide open. They don’t flare much,  and they produce pleasing bokeh.

Since its first debut at NAB 2025, the Chiopt AURA Super Speed Prime Series has captured the attention of filmmakers, cinematographers, DPs, and content creators. Everyone wanted to get their hands on the lenses and see what they could do. Many professionals have tested the lenses in real productions, and we’ve been listening closely to their authentic feedback. Today, we’re excited to share one such user’s honest impressions after putting the AURA primes through their paces.

Lightweight, Compact, and Balanced

Great glass doesn’t have to weigh you down. Each lens in the AURA series weighs between 790g and 921g (1.74–2.03 lb) and measures just 107–120mm in length. This makes them easy to handle, even for handheld rigs, gimbals, or drone applications.

For filmmakers working long days on set or creators using compact rigs like the DJI Ronin 4D, the lightweight design is a key advantage. The balance between fast T1.5 apertures (T2.2 for 16mm) and manageable size is an impressive engineering achievement.

Flexible Mounts for Modern Cameras

Available in Sony E-mount, Canon RF-mount, and Leica L-mount, these lenses are designed to adapt to the latest full-frame cinema and mirrorless cameras.

Filmmakers can easily pair them with popular systems like the Sony FX2, FX3, FX6, FX9, BURANO, Canon R5C, RED KOMODO, Panasonic S1H, Blackmagic Cinema Cameras, and even the DJI Ronin 4D, ensuring maximum compatibility.

Precision Build Quality You Can Trust

Crafted with premium materials and engineered to exacting standards, CHIOPT lenses deliver reliable performance on every set. Each detail is designed for durability, consistency, and flawless cinematic results.

*16mm has a front diameter of 88mm, and doesn’t take screw in filters.

Focus Control

Minimal Breathing

Focus breathing can be distracting in motion work, but AURA keeps it under control. During extensive focus pulls, some breathing was observed due to the internal focusing design, yet the effect remains subtle compared to many cine lenses in its class.

For productions that rely heavily on focus transitions—such as narrative films or dynamic interviews—AURA maintains framing stability, making it easier for focus pullers and operators to deliver professional results.

From Tests to Real-World Shooting

Matthew Allard is saying

The Chiopt AURA Super Speed Prime Series is a solid set of lenses.

The lenses are well made, they have decent mechanics, and they offer good center sharpness even when used wide open.

The lenses show almost no signs of real-world chromatic aberration, even when used wide open.

The AURA series performs well. They are reasonably sharp, even when used wide open, and they produce pleasing bokeh

It is also good that they have user-swappable mounts so you can move them between various camera systems.
