At Cine Gear 2026, Bosma had the opportunity to showcase the Vega H2, our new 6K full-frame cinema camera, and discuss its development with CineD, one of the industry's leading filmmaking publications.

As one of the most respected voices in the filmmaking industry, CineD's coverage provided an opportunity to share our vision for a new generation of cinema cameras: combining innovative technologies such as HVS, ToF autofocus, and OVND with a workflow designed for modern creators.

Interview Highlights

THE BIG IDEA

What makes the Vega H2 different from other cinema cameras?

The Vega H2 was designed around three key innovations:

  • HVS (Horizontal & Vertical Switching)
  • ToF Autofocus for Manual Lenses
   • OVND (Optical Variable ND)

These technologies aim to simplify production workflows while maintaining professional image quality.

VERTICAL READY

What is HVS?

HVS allows the camera to switch between horizontal and vertical shooting by rotating the lens mount and sensor assembly together.

For creators producing content across YouTube, Instagram Reels, TikTok, and other vertical-first platforms, this means faster transitions without awkward rig adjustments.

SMART FOCUSING

How does ToF autofocus work?

The Vega H2 combines ToF (Time-of-Flight) distance measurement and a motorized focus system to bring autofocus functionality to manual lenses.

Users can switch between assisted autofocus and traditional manual focusing depending on the shooting scenario.

ND CONTROL

What is OVND?

OVND stands for Optical Variable ND.

Instead of swapping ND filters, users can electronically adjust light transmission inside the camera body.

This allows exposure changes to be made quickly and smoothly, especially useful for documentary, outdoor, and run-and-gun productions.

MOUNT OPTIONS

What mounts are available?

The Vega H2 is planning to feature a user-interchangeable mount system. Available options include:

  • Native PL Mount
  • Optional EF, M Mount

The mounts can be swapped without factory service, giving filmmakers flexibility across different lens ecosystems.

STORAGE CHOICE

Why SD cards instead of CFexpress?

Our goal was to lower the total cost of ownership.

SD cards remain affordable, widely available, and sufficient for many production workflows. The camera also supports external SSD recording for higher-capacity projects.

RAW RECORDING

Why no internal RAW?

We focused on balancing image quality, workflow efficiency, and storage requirements.

The Vega H2 currently supports H.264, H.265, and Apple ProRes recording formats, while external RAW recording solutions are under development.

CREATOR FIRST

Who is Vega H2 for?

We see the Vega H2 as a tool for:

  • Solo operators
  • Content creators
  • Independent filmmakers
  • Documentary creators
  • Broadcast professionals

The goal is to provide advanced imaging capabilities in a compact, creator-friendly package.

Innovation in Action

Load video:

Instant HVS Switching

Vega H2 6K allows the CMOS sensor, lens mount, and lens to rotate 90° in perfect sync, with the UI adapting instantly to the new orientation.

Load video:

ToF Hybrid AF

Precision ToF sensing enables subject tracking up to 50m / 164ft, bringing real-time control to focus, zoom, and aperture. Presettable lens data allows instant recall of configurations after lens changes, reducing setup time and ensuring continuity on set.

Load video:

Motorized Drop-In OVND

Vega H2 6K features a built-in, plug-in motorized variable ND system with a continuous range of 0.3–2.4. Adjust seamlessly on the fly. No need to swap filters or interrupt your workflow.

Pro I/O & Networking

12G-SDI, HDMI, timecode, dual XLR with phantom power, and multiple USB-C ports for top handle and FIZ motor control.

A 4.5-inch touchscreen with a 1.54-inch side display for quick monitoring and control.

Full network connectivity enables reliable multi-camera sync for streamlined multi-cam production.

We would like to thank the CineD team for the opportunity to discuss the Vega H2 and share Bosma's vision with the filmmaking community.

As we continue refining the Vega H2 and expanding the Bosma imaging ecosystem, we remain focused on developing practical innovations that help creators work more efficiently and tell their stories with greater freedom.
